AreToyota D4D engines good? The Toyota 3.0 D-4D engine can reach a 250,000 miles (400,000 km) mileage. The 1KD-FTV is not very durable and reliable compare to the old Toyota’s diesel engines, but we can point out that the 1KD engine is more powerful and at the same time consumes less fuel than its predecessor, the 1KZ engine.
Ihave just acquired a 2.5 d4d Hilux SRX with 155000km. Toyota want R4800 to do the 160000 service. I was told by the service manager that they do not use synthetic long life oil. My question is why not. I change my oils at 7500km intervals on my KZTE and am using castrol edge 10W/40 longlife I have clocked 385000 km and the
Itsimply just doesn’t sound or feel as diesel-like, with no diesel ‘rattle’ and much-subdued diesel ‘knock’. You can still tell the 2.8 is an oiler, but it’s certainly a lot quieter and smoother at all engine speeds and under varying loads and throttle applications, and makes for a better all-round driving experience.

Mated to the new 6-speed Super ECT automatic transmission, the 2.8l D-4D develops 370 Nm of torque at 1,200 rpm, and a maximum 450 Nm of torque between 1,600 and 2,400
The1.4 D4D engine is the same one that is in the Yaris and has been proven to be pretty bullet-proof so far. (Obviously it's more fun in the Yaris tho' :P :D) Diesels are good first cars to have as they are much more forgiving and harder to stall than petrols. The Toyota D4D engines are very underrated IMHO; They don't look the best
